Kentra

Isle of Tiree

New for 2022, a recently renovated traditional stone-built croft house next to the beach.

Kentra is a recently renovated, well equipped, traditional stone-built croft house with spectacular views of the beach from the upper floor. Situated in the township of Balinoe, we are fortunate to have an excellent location directly across from the sandy track to the beautiful Soroby (or Balinoe) beach. On clear days there are stunning views of the isles of Mull, Jura and Rhum and even Ben Nevis in the distance. The sunrises are amazing if you are up early enough to see them. Kentra in Gaelic is Ceann Traigh, meaning “head of the beach”.

Family room with a king size bed and a single bed. Double bedroom. Bunk bedroom. Small single room ideally suited to a child. To ensure a comfortable stay for our guests, we recommend a maximum of six adults plus two children.

Accommodation – Ground floor
Entrance porch - with coat hooks and washing machine.
Hall - louvre doored cupboard housing air source heating boiler, vacuum cleaner, brush and dust pan, mop and bucket and clothes horse.

Sitting room - corner sofa, 47” freesat television, feature fireplace with fairy lights.
Kitchen – electric ceramic four ring hob and extractor hood, electric fan oven, microwave, slow cooker, toaster, electric kettle, integrated dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a large dining table that seats 8.
Shower room – WC, basin and quadrant walk-in shower with both rainfall and standard heads. Mirror with sensor LED lights.

Steep original croft house staircase to the first floor.

Accommodation - First floor

Family room - king size bed with memory foam mattress and a single bed, bedside drawers, wardrobe and tallboy with drawers. Views of the beach.

Double room - compact double room with bedside drawers and mirrored wardrobe with drawers. Views of the beach.

Bunk room - compact room with bedside drawers and wardrobe. Views over open countryside to Ben Hynish.

The wee room - a small single room with a continental single bed. Full length (6’ 3”) but slightly narrower than a standard single at 2’ 6”. Ideally suited to a child (although adults have slept here too). Chest of drawers and door hooks. This was previously the bathroom, but the view of the beach is too good to waste on an opaque window!

Bathroom - WC, basin and short bath with overhead electric shower. Mirror with LED sensor lights.

Spacious landing - bookcase containing a variety of books, games, playing cards and dominoes.

Facilities and services
Heating and hot water are supplied by renewable energy via an air source heat pump which is included in the price. Radiators have thermostatic valves which can be adjusted as required.

Garden to the front with patio areas, a picnic table seating 8 and a fire pit. There is an outside tap for rinsing wetsuits and beach gear. Rear garden laid to grass with retractable clothes lines. This is west facing and benefits from the sun from around lunchtime until it sets. The garden is surrounded by a stockproof fence. There is a shed where deck chairs are stored. Guests can store their bikes, surf boards etc here. There are a selection of buckets and spades available if required. There is parking outside the house.

Unfortunately due to the traditional design of the house and the steep staircase to the first floor it is not accessible to people with mobility challenges.

Short breaks are available in low season. Please contact to enquire.
