Learn moreThere is plenty to see and do on the island - watch the seals form the front door, wildlife, fishing, golf, walking and cycling are all available or visit some of the archaeological sites and the eight famous distilleries to sample the whisky! Take a day trip to nearby Jura from Port Askalg (22miles), Bowmore (18 miles) has traditional shops. Post office/ shop 100 yards, pub ¼ mile (across the bay).
Please be aware that due to the age and location of the property there may be some evidence of slight dampness during extreme weather conditions. Every possible effort has been made to reduce the problem. The affected walls have been injected with damp proof solution.
Also please note that the primary heating is by a multi-fuel stove with electric radiators for background heating. The radiators are not powerful enough to heat the property on their own during cold weather. Logs, Kindling and Electricity included in the price within reason.

By Air fly from Glasgow to Islay by Flybe. Car hire, bus or taxi available from Islay airportwhich is near Port Ellen, follow directions below to Portnahaven.By Bus there is a bus service from Glasgow to Kennacraig and from the ferry terminals to Portnahaven contact Caldeonian Macbrayne from ferry terminal follow directions below to Portnahaven. By Ferry Catch Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Kennacraig near Tarbert on the Mull of Kintyre to either Port Ellen or Port Askaig.From either ferry terminal or the airport head for Bridgend then take the turning for Port Charlotte and Portnahaven. On arrival at Portnahaven King Street is on the left hand side of the bay looking out to sea.
The nine (soon to be ten) famous working single malt whisky distilleries of Islay -Ardbeg, Ardnahoe, Bowmore, Bruicladdich, Bunnahaabhain, Caol Ila, Kilchoman, Lagavulin and Laphroaig. Port Ellen is soon to be re-opened to make ten.
Wildlife, Seals, Deer, White Tailed Sea Eagles on Eilean Mhic Coinnich in recent times, .Approximately 250 species of birds on the island during the year including Golden Eagles, Buzzards, Hen Harriers, Chough, migrating Barnacle and White Fronted geese from Greenland.
