This lovely holiday home provides a recently upgraded warm and comfortable fresh base from which to enjoy the island of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides, in the picturesque conservation village of Port Charlotte. Your fee includes all utilities, wifi, fresh linen and towels.

Lighthouse View enjoys spacious and spotless accommodation, with a very well equipped kitchen, high quality bedlinen and soft cotton towels. The heating operates from an airsource heatpump, which very effectively and efficiently warms the whole house, and produces further green energy from its solar panels.

A very good Wifi connection and large flat screen TV with a range of subscription TV services are available free of charge, and include for example Netflix and Amazon TV.

Beach, walks, pier and hotels and restaurants all within an easy stroll. Only steps to the sea, with its views across Lochindaal to the Paps of Jura, the Port Charlotte Lighthouse, and local beaches. As Islay is THE whisky island, visiting the lovely distilleries is always a pleasure for their tours, tastings, shopping and good quality cafes, with famous names such as Bowmore, Laphroaig, Caolila and Bruichladdich to name but a few. From the village, a coastal path allows for safe walking and cycling to the neighbouring village of Bruichladdich, and generally the island is very suited to cycling, fishing, watersports, hillwalking and wildlife, in addition to to the beautiful beaches, picturesque villages and a wide range of delicious dining options, with menus of local beef, seafood, fish and game.

Susie and David love to make their guests feel welcome and are delighted to help in any way they can, and provide a helpful summary of what to do and see in the island, which is accessible by Calmac ferry and by Loganair.

Whilst in Islay, visits to Jura and Colonsay are possible and also boat charters to Ireland or tours around the coast, including fishing trips and wildlife tours, to enjoy dolphins, sea eagles and a host of other birds and mammals.

Sleeps six in a king master bedroom and two more bedrooms each of which can be made as twins or kings. Travel cot available on request.

This holiday home offers beautiful views across the loch from the panoramic upstairs sitting room and from the spacious kitchen-dining room on ground floor level. Master bedroom and family shower room on upper level along with roomy sitting room, and downstairs at entry level is the newly fitted kitchen dining room with breakfast bar and phone charging station, with views to the sea and lighthouse, a loo with wash hand basin and two further bedrooms complete the layout, all connected via the spacious bright entry hall with stand for coats and shoes.

The house is situated in the centre of the conservation village, with a small garden area to the front with flowering shrubs and a garden bench which enjoys a sheltered and sunny afternoon perch from which to watch village life go by.

A parking space at the gable end of the building provides ease of access, and parks up to 2 cars, whilst there is unrestricted parking throughout the village.

A few steps down the road lead you to the seaside, with a small sandy beach at the pier, and further beaches along towards the lighthouse. From the village, with its local shop, filling station and post office, you can enjoy views to the South to the Irish coast, clearly visible on sunny days.

The village is picturesque and quiet, ideal for couples, families and dogs, and the house enjoys proximity to the lovely Port Charlotte Hotel, with its whisky bar, traditional music and delicious bar and dining room lunches and dinners. Tables are also situated at the sea side of the hotel, to enjoy food and drinks in warmer weather.

    Directions and Parking

Islay is in the Southern Hebrides, accessible from the Kennacraig ferry terminal near Tarbert, Loch Fyne, at the top of the Mull of Kintyre, about 3 hours from Glasgow. The Calmac car ferry from Kennacraig takes c2.5 hours to sail to either Port Ellen or Port Askaig, with both ports being equidistant from Port Charlotte. On board you can eat, drink and relax.

Drive from either ferry port or Islay airport to Bridgend, where you take the signposted road to Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Portnahaven. As you enter Port Charlotte Village, you will pass the Port Charlotte Hotel, and Lighthouse View is the next house on the left, with its gable end facing you. Pull in to the car parking area, and go along the path past the little flower garden, to the front door, marked no 1, with a sign saying Lighthouse View above the door. The key safe is on the right, and you simply need to enter the code provided by your hosts, to access your key.

The island is only 25 miles by 25, so any journey will not take long, and c half an hour from the ports.
We do suggest calling in to co-op in Bowmore for your initial provisions, or indeed bring with you from the mainland, there's a handy co-op in Lochgilphead for example, which is about half an hour to the ferry.
