Facing West B&B - Bramble Room

Isle of Islay

FACING WEST offers a stay in a simple and basic Two Room - B&B in a rural location.

FACING WEST, a B&B in Carnduncan, Gruinart, offers a peaceful, scenic and creative environment. There are two rooms available (one double, one twin), both with en suite shower rooms.
The cottage is situated near Loch Gorm, just over 5 miles from Port Charlotte and looks out over Loch Gorm towards Machir Bay and Saligo Bay. On a clear day you can see Ireland. From Carnduncan one can cycle or drive to Machir Bay, Saligo Bay or Sanaigmore Bay within minutes. Loch Gruinart, of special interest not only for bird watchers, is only a good couple of miles away, the is the Outback Gallery.
As we care for the environment, we try where at all possible to use local, organic and eco-friendly products. For breakfast beside tea, coffee and juice, a selection of fruits and cerals, toast, jams, marmalade, honey and, if requested, eggs are served.

At FACING WEST you have the option of joining one of my art classes during your stay. My cottage is adjacent to my art studio and gallery and 3-day-workshops inclusive B&B are an ideal scenario. (See fingerpainting.de/workshops/ for details.)

Two single beds.

Room features an en suit shower bath/toilet, a table with two chairs. The window allows a view to the garden and to the neighbours cottage.

On nice days it is great to sit outside. The sitting area on the patio allows great views westwards across Loch Gorm.

A couple of steps and doors lead into the property.

The rate for a minimum stay at Facing West is 4 nights. Discounts when staying 5 nights, or 6 to 10 nights.

    Directions and Parking

Believe me, my experience tells me that, your car nav doesn't necessarily find my place. There might also not be a reliable signal mobile phone. This is why I recommend you to either bring a (Google)map or to follow these instructions:

Either from Port Askaig, from Port Ellen or from the airport drive to Bridgend. There you will turn into the A847 and follow directions for Port Charlotte/Portnahaven for 6 1/2 km.
Turn right into the 8018. After 3 km you will arrive at a T-junction. Turn right, downhill there and keep on going for 2 1/2 km until you see a rock with the sign for CARNDUNCAN on your right. (In case you find a red telephone box, you drove a few hundred yards too far!)
At the sign turn right into our track, which you follow uphill before you pass through our gate. You will find my house after the garage on your left.

It might be the best option to eat on the ferry, when arriving with the evening cruise and not having made a reservation at a restaurant.

A note about your time of arrival is appreciated and will allow me to make sure I am available to welcome you.

Mind the sheep and deer on the roads and have a safe trip!
